Gayle Guyardo Interviews Michael Lundy on the Legalization of Gay Marriage (News Channel 8)

February 01, 2012

Recently Michael Lundy sat down to talk with Gayle Guyardo on the issues of gay marriage and domestic partnerships.

By now, gay marriage is hardly a new topic for Americans. As more state legislatures legalize these unions, it is important to remember that the rights that a couple has in the state of their marriage may not hold up in another state. With the recent legalization of gay marriage in New York , many gay couples from Florida have made a trip up north to legalize their union.  Unfortunately for them, when they return to their homes in Florida, their marriages and the rights that ordinarily come with a marriage are not valid or enforceable.

While there is much controversy and surrounding same sex couples, there are also some very important issues concerning opposite sex couples. In states such as Florida that do not have common law marriages or laws providing for domestic partnerships, individuals that have been part of unwed couples often find themselves with little or no rights if their relationships end, even if they have spent their entire adult lives together.  Michael advises how these couples need to take precautions to ensure they are not left without options if the worst occurs.
